If the first film was Amityville meets The Others, then Messengers 2: The Scarecrow is Wicker Man meets Pumpkinhead. The first two-thirds play out as a fairly compelling family drama, as the pressure of a loan and failing crops drives a wedge between John and his wife, and if it weren't for the initial slaughter scene and John's bad dreams, there would be little reason to think this a horror film.
