Outcast by society for his radical experiments, a brilliant scientist leaves his world behind, in search of acceptance. But he never expected to learn the truth. Long ago, in a world between worlds, the gods locked the secrets of immortality in a box, and hid the keys from civilization. To become a god, he must travel through time and space, fight ancient keepers of the soul keys, and retrieve the greatest treasure of all. He has no home. He has no name. He has no remorse. The game starts off in a small area called the ‘Valley of Gods’, basically an interactive level-selection menu. In each of the eight levels that can be accessed from this area, there is a ’soul key’, which once collected can be used to open one of the eight locks beyond which there is the prized ‘immortality box’.
Dark Raider seems like a puzzle game. Apparently, the only puzzle element about the game is the maze navigation and key-finding. Other than that, Dark Raider is mostly about combat. You start off with a pistol and pick up about ten types of guns on the way, including shotguns, grenades, rocket launcher, flame thrower, fireballs, blades. The combat situations are not kind. There are situations when you are almost surrounded by fast-moving enemies with no way out. If you are lucky to have a good weapon, you might survive the battle with 90% of your health gone.
